c1 trunk lid spring noise and replacement

My '61 trunk and convertible top lids make a loud squealing sounds when opening and closing - the sound is apparently made by the expansion and contraction of the old original springs as I have oiled all pivot joints. Is the only way to silence this sound is to replace these springs? If so, does someone have a preferred procedure for replacing them.

    Thanks.

I think the noise is just one of those things that your going to have to live with, mine do the same. If they keep your lids open, I wouldn't replace they spring, they should judge fine without any deductions, mine did.

I do look forward to seeing what others post regarding this subject.

I think our original 62 has always done that. Like the rattle from the shifter. Eric
