Re: Take a look at this thread Paul

    Rick,
Yours seem to be the same as mine. I'm clocked out on this one (bad pun). There must be a right answer??

Re: Take a look at this thread Paul

Here's a photo that shows the clocking of the alternator on my 67 327/300. I'm pretty sure it is correct because John Pirkle did the rebuild and the car has been Flight judged three times with no comments on the alternator clocking.

        Mine is incorrect, Paul

Yours, Rick's and Joe's show the correct clocking.

The picture is of my 67 untouched original, note the position of the attachment lugs versus the flat on the rear case. I guess when I refurbed mine I got it 90 degrees off.

Sorry for the confusion, thanks Jack for the email.

Paul, if that 63 amp NAPA rotor and stator will fit in your original, and your diodes are good (at least the case ones), that's the way to go.

            Re: Mine is incorrect, Paul

Thanks to those who replied. If I use the new NAPA alternator I have a clocking job to do.

            Jerry,
It might be time for a new shop manual....

              Paul,
              I'll second that motion.

                If you re-clock...

be careful and do it right! Remove the bolts holding the rear case to the front and keep forward pressure with your hand on the rear case. While holding the rear case forward, rotate it to the position you desire and reinstall the case bolts.

I saw an owner attempt to reclock his alternator at a Regional meet prior to the car's judging and he failed to hold the rear case forward... As soon as the last bolt was removed, the rear case slipped backward and the internal brushes slipped off the rotor shaft!

That resulted in a complete removal of the rear case, manual reset of the brushes and installation of a holding pin in order to get the rear case properly installed...

39 1/2 years in the Jack Compartment

takes its toll on the Overhaul Manual. I've got a newer edition but that one is still the best.

It was about this time of the year in 1968 when I acquired my 67, and that manual with the Chassis Service Manual were in the jack compartment when I got it. You should see the condition of the Service Manual, much worst.
