Sorry for the repeat, but I tried this question some time ago and got no response.
I’ve just pulled the body off the frame of my Nov ’56 built ’57 and find that I have solid blackout underneath from just behind the center body mounts where the floor pan kicks up behind the seats all the way to the rear and side to side, not just the wheel wells and spare tire tub as expected. I am 99% sure this was factory applied as there is complete blackout, not just overspray, where the frame and rear shock cross member would mask it if it were painted after body drop.
The question is, of course, is this possible or how likely is it? Any other ways to confirm that this was or was not factory applied?
Should I document and restore as I found it or to the expectations of the JM and judges? It would make restoration much simpler to be able to blackout over needed repairs in the area.
Advice and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
