Re: B-J prices as indicator of market

The few quality cars that I personally know went for good dollars. The quality of others are reflected by their prices. Therefore, it's difficult to make a year over year comparison.

I saw both these cars at the Indiana Regional last year. The story that was going around the meet was that one of the tankers is a clone. it didn't make a top flight. I wonder what the new owner would do if he took it to get flighted at a NCRS meet? there are too many guys out there with incredible resources to make any car look any way you want. only a few judges can really tell.

I got tired of seeing the Speed Channel commentators run to a trim tag or vin tag and declare the car original but never said anyone can buy them for 100.00 in the right places. Also I saw them checking Alternator date codes on Corvettes to endore the cars. It was entertaining though!

I couldn't agree more--using a $300 part like an alternator to some how bona fide a 200k car!

Do Mopars have a problem with fender tag reproduction? Since there were so many Mopar assembly plants, I would think it would be very difficult to perform the type of analysis that has been done to authenticate Corvette trim tags.

And what is the deal with Galen Govier and his registry? Does he actually have access to factory records? Or is his registry similar to our C1-2-3 registries where owners tell him what they have and he records the info without real validation?

            Joel,

Govier doesn't have exact production built numbers for Dodge, Plymouth cars. He has the percentages of options and calculates this to the number of built.

Thanks Warren, that is about what I figured. Does he do any authentication of the fender (trim) tag as being authentic (such as what Al Grenning might do)? If not, I do not see how his registry adds any provenance to the car.

Galen provides a documentation report on cars. He gets $450.00 plus expenses. He ALSO reporduces the fender tags, but requires quite a bit of documentation to do so

Now THAT'S a racket right there

Could you imagine if Grenning was both the avowed master of detecting fake trim tags AND also the one you went to to buy your fake trim tag?

and we think we have ethical problems in the Corvette hobby . . . . . . .

You need to read the disclaimer on his web site. If you do NOT have a build sheet or a rusty fender tag, he will not help you. He is very highly respected in MoPar circles
