There are no brake hoses on the market today that have end-fittings and crimps which are, at all, close to the originals used from 1967 through, at least, 1972. So, I think that just about any of those available will be just about as "incorrect" as any other. Just be sure to get some that, at least, have the "ribbed" hose configuration. The "smooth" style "stand out like a sore thumb".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: front brake hoses
Joe and all, My almost $400.00 worth of Auto Accessories of America stainless steel caliper(LF)started leaking(I bought 4). I used the type 4 brake fluid as suggested by them and bought it from them. When I took the caliper apart all the pistons and chambers were full of rust. I bought these in 1998. The regular Wagner rebuilts that I took out of stock at my store lasted lomger than these. Is there something I am doing wrong? Advise or ideas PLEASE. Thank you dale- Top

Re: front brake hoses
Don't know anything about Auto Accy of America, I bought a set of Calipers from Bairs in '87, still were on the car when I pulled the body in '2005, used regular standard brake fluid, no problems.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Were the caliper BORES rusty or was there just rust deposits in the caliper when you took it apart?
If the caliper bores were rusty and, presumably, the calipers previously "stainless steel sleeved", then I'd say you got some inferior rebuilds. Some calipers out there are sleeved with DECORATIVE stainless steel sleeves. This alloy is not immune from corrosion.
Otherwise, I'd say that either you didn't flush the system thoroughly prior to rebuild or your brake fluid absorbed a lot of water from the atmosphere and caused other internal corrosion of the system. Keep in mind that only the caliper BORES are sleeved---the rest of the caliper internals are just bare cast iron. They will corrode if water gets into the brake fluid. Any DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid is HIGHLY hygroscopic (meaning that it has a strong attraction for atmospheric or other water). That's why I think that DOT-5 silicone fluid is the best fluid for cars used like ours. However, I don't want to get that old debate started again here.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: front brake hoses
Joe, The bores are OK. But the cast part is full of rust. I find it hard to believe that we got that much water in Albuq. N.M. If you know what I mean. They will clean up and get new pads and brake hoses. I think 5 is right. Thanks to all who responded. Dale- Top

Joe,
I can not believe you would recommend DOT-5 for vintage cars, SACRILEGE!!!
