As close as I have come to my 68 L79 convert with factory air. My vin number is 4888. I see no signs of a idle solenoid set-up. It also has the metal radiator/fan shroud.
Is this real?

Re: Is this real?
Yes, and the throttle return spring bracket appears to be aftermarket and mounted to an inake manifold bolt (I don't this is stock but I'm no expert either). This may be related to the lack of an idle stop solenoid as you indicate.- Top

Re: A side question about originality of this car
68's were unique... Designers needed more time to perfect the '69 and later release handle, so a 1-year only 'hybrid' was used. The upper handle served only as a 'grip' to move the door open and a conventional release knob with key mechanism mounted below it.
Later, the release knob was replaced with a simple keyway to lock/un-lock the door and the upper handle served to actuate the door release as well as a being a grip. From a distance, it's hard to detect the difference and see if the keyway is actually a protruding release knob...- Top
