I recently acquired a 1974 Convertible. It came with both the soft top and the optional hardtop. The questions I have involve the fasteners and other related parts that are used with the three hardtop studs to attach the hardtop to the rear deck. The only hardtop fastener part that came with the car (other than the 3 studs sticking down from the hardtop) was one of the two p/n 9419892 bent washers that are used on the two outboard stud locations.
I cannot tell from the AIM what the other parts actually look like and the best way to replace them.
If someone has a hardtop that has all of the original parts intact perhaps they could help answer the following questions:
1. For the center stud location: The AIM shows what is called a p/n 3830940 bumper between the stud and the washers and nuts. Can someone describe this part and it's function? Does anyone know of a source to purchase?
2. For the center stud location: I assume that the two washers and the nut shown in the AIM are a flat washer, a lock washer and a hex nut - can someone confirm this? Is it reasonable to just use hardare store parts for these items or can these parts be purchased from someone? (p/n's are p/n 9419892 washer, p/n 103319 washer and p/n 193227 nut)
3. For the outboard stud locations: The AIM shows what look like 3 spacers, p/n 3958748 that it says are press fit on the stud - are these parts actually a tight fit to the stud and therefore likely present ( I have never examined) or if not how many spacers do I need and are they special parts or just flat washers? If special parts does anyone know of a source?
4. For the outboard stud locations: The AIM shows a p/n 3976411 hose over the stud threads. I assume this is some type of rubber or plastic part. Can someone describe this part? Could this be locally fabriated or does anyone know of a source for this part?
5. For the outboard stud locations: The AIM shows a p/n 103321 washer and a p/n 9418931 nut. Is is reasonable to just use hardware store parts for these items or can these parts be purchased from someone? I assume the nut is a hex nut?
6. Finally I have only one of the two bent washers p/n 3942766 for the outboard stud locations. Does anyone know where I could purchase another one of these bent washers? I know the Dr. Rebuild part is not correct as he sells a flat washer.
