    finish of 57 powerglide shifters

your opinions solicitated on the finish of the shifter. just glassbeaded the shifter out of 1093 and it appears to be a very light coat of silver cad.thanks, mike

Assume you are talking about the shifter handle?

I would be suprised if cad plate would hold up to a glass bead job. Normally there is less than .0005 thickness (yup..half a thousandth) of plating on the surface and not it's not really too resistance to a bead blast job.

Nickel/Chrome would be along the same order of thickness, but much more resistant to the bead blasting. The finish after such treatment would also resemble the dull finish of Cad plate,

shifter handles were definitly chrome plated. i'm referring to the shifter body and lever and the small retaining bracket on the lower end. stick with the c-2's , ya big dummy. regards, mike PS have gotten 3 private email responses on the finish and all three vote silver cad for the non-expsoed shifter components.

If you bead blasted cad and it survived..you must have a pretty limp wristed bead blast set-up Mikie. Either that or you were using barley and rye from your home brew recipe for blasting media.

I'll stay away from C1's though as you suggest at least until next time I feel inspired to reply to one of your comments anyway..

hey turkey, i had hoped i was pretty clear on the previous beadblasting coments. with my limp wrist, paint comes off super quick and cad plating takes 4 to 10 times the glass bead exposure to get to bare metal, at least with c-2 cad plated parts i've denuded. with this c-1 part, seems like it only took about twice the time to remove whatever the finish was compared to paint would NEVER waste Beast ingredients on a vette part. mikie

              Ok Mikie,

Beings it's just a C1 part, the General probably specified a Class III thickness. (.0002") Because everybody knows the C2 stuff is "Mo Bedda". I'll take back my "limp wrist" comment about your bead blast machine.

BTW, I've recieved at least 10 private emails that claim we are both full of crap...but mostly just you
