I am ready to start the gauge restoration for my 68 and I would like some tips from the experts. First where can I get the Green floresent paint? Are the gauges restorable or buy new from who? What color is the instrument backing plate, the piece everything is mounted to, it looks silver or even clear? Can the faces be replace if so who sells them? Are there 2 different oil gauges with different limits? Are all of the gauges the same indepedent of engine/option combo. This is my second day on the message board and you guys are GREAT! I can't thank you enough for the guidance, for years I have been doing this in a vacumm always second guessing my work. Thank you again! Gary

Re: C3 center Guage cluster restoration
Most send their gages out to an instrument restorer. There are many recommendations from those on this board. Personally, I have used Roger Scott for my '67 which was an untouched original cluster and clock. He was reasonable and close for me at the time since I lived in West Palm Beach, FL area at the time. You may contact him through his web page at www.corvetteinstrumentservice.com

Re: C3 center Guage cluster restoration
Gary,
Kent's reccomendation is right on the money. I sent all of my '68 gauges to Roger in January & I am very happy with the results.
He restored & calibrated all of my gauges including a new speedo & clock face, they are a perfect match.
He is the guy who Corvette Central & Ecklers uses for gauge restoration, however it is much more economical to deal with him direct.
Good luck,

Re: C3 center Guage cluster restoration
And for god sakes be careful of the delicate cast bezel. There are two fragile spots about a 3rd of the way down where there is not a lot of metal and the weight of the whole assembly will snap the metal. Ask how I know this---no bubba made sure it was done b4 I got the car. Where oh where can one find one not broken?- Top
