    Re: sorry to all

My big thing is Original how to keep it that way.GM did not come from a book. Why is everyone trying to make there new car Original. When you have a chance that mybe a 1972 is original and we can all learn from it.We, all "top 25" should have correct input to keep it that way .Awards big deal. Are you in the 5% club?

Re: 72 frame diesel oil cleaner?

Back in the early/mid nineties, the owners of Quanta were just getting a struggling business started, and building their product list.

I remember at their trailer at Bloomington or Carlise, Gary(?) had some rusted iron there that he was using to demonstrate how that Pre-Lube 6 would reverse the sample back to natural iron. I guess I was skeptical then, and I'm still skeptical that it'll do that. But...it is a good preservative that will prevent/arrest corrosion.

        Re: sorry to all

I hope that someone else can follow what you're trying to say....

Lyle has had cars just as original as your 72, and likely more so. If there's an award, he's won it with a car. He's campaigned some very original cars that have ALSO won numerous awards, and in addition restored others to perfection. I wish I had half his skills at restoration.

I've campaigned my own very original 72 and run it through the system, both Flight and Bowtie judging. I'm not sure how having us recommend certain products to keep an original car in its current state without restoring, replating, or repainting is somehow not "keeping it that way." I have, in fact, decided NOT to campaign my car for a Duntov award because I don't want to restore just a small part of it in order to bring it from a 96% car to a 97% car.

If you don't like our advice you need not use it.

                All
Just to let you know I have used Prelube six also 303 I think was the number in a five gallon can. The idea behind diesel fuel is the black carbon makes the rust appear better to some judges. It would need to be put on with a lead time so it tones down and is not oily. I learned about it on this board from one of the best at making things appear correct with a NCRS number of less than 15.
                Thanks for the kind words.

                    Denny,

No one said you didn't need to post.

You asked how to clean/derust/prepare your frame. And, we gave you answers. All I can still figure out is that you thought we were giving you totally goofy answers or trying to lead you on a wild goose chase. But as Terry, Lyle and I have said, we weren't. We've all been in your shoes so our advice is based on our experience "from the other side." There are far better uses of our time than to give you errant information.

How about posting some pictures of your car?

                    Patrick

P.S. Pre-Lube 6 does wonders on exhaust manifolds.

                      Re: sorry

                      Denny,

There are sometimes humorous replies to questions but they are usually quite obvious.

A serious question will receive straight forward, knowledgeable replies. I don't remember ever seeing an intentional misleading answer.

As others have stated, you can do as you wish with the answer, your car, your choice.

A lot of people here have original unrestored cars and a lot of us would far prefer to see a nice unrestored car left that way. But that is not to say we should not do what we can to preserve the car so it will not deteriorate more.

                      Regards,

                      Verle
