Here's a picture of the coil, the bottom number looks like D514 but the paint has been scratched off the D.

Scott, note the identifying PN on your coil is silk screened on vs. being physically embossed. That's generally accepted as evidence of a non-factory original coil having been replaced by a later era GM service replacement coil...

And even if it WAS original...which it's not...

So obviously this TI is not factory. The car is a driver so I just want to make it work as best I can until I have a reason to replace it. If it were a cheesy bubba hack-job it would already be gone, on the contrary someone has gone to a lot of trouble to make it look like this TI belongs in this car, to all but the most discerning eye of course. If I understand correctly that meant replacing the distributor, coil, engine wiring harness and installing the TI box. This wouldn't have been cheap, easy or the most effective upgrade so it beats me why anyone would've bothered.

Again, thanks to all for pointing this out, if it ever acts up I'll get a correct setup, but as long as it's working it's good enough for a driver.

I'm going to review the wiring diagram in my AIM but I suspect it won't have the TI in there for obvious reasons. I guess I'll need a diagram for a '71 with TI. In the meantime can anyone tell me what wires should be connected to my TI coil? Do I need a yellow wire from the solenoid to the + side of the coil to give me 12V when cranking?

        Thanks,
        Scott
