I am taking a part the Trans, 4 speed muncie. I am having problems spliting the cases. It appears that there is a groove in the one gear (reverse I believe) and I am not able to get it apart. any advice??

Re: Transmission
Tyler,
The reverse shift shaft is retained in the case by a tapered pin that gets drifted out from the bottom. Once the pin is removed the reverse shaft can be pulled out to clear the flange which will allow the removal of the extension housing. This is outlined in the shop manual. Before you get too deep in this I would recommend getting your hands on one for reference, it will save time, money and headaches later for sure!

Re: Transmission
Tyler,
Don pointed out the pin is tapered. Examine carefully before attempting to drive it out. Driving it the wrong direction can crack the tailshaft boss. They are often pretty tight but will come out. Once the pin is out, pull on the reverse lever and it will slide out far enough for the tailshaft housing to come off.
