John,

I would suggest that there are two sets of tabs, and it will depend on the person as to which one you are discussing.

One is the rounded one that I am showing in my picture, and located in the middle of the long gasket. As aftermarket gaskets are straight across in this location, there is no tab on them.
The other is the square tab with the GM letters on the rubber end gaskets. Bill Clupper has kindly provided a picture of that tab.

Note that Paragon's description of the tabs is the one I am using. In addition, it's generally the tabs we look for in 70-72 judging that I do. So, that is my frame of reference. I would suggest that if your 63 has NOS gaskets, you have both sets of tabs on your car.

Patrick, I agree with you explanation. Two sets of tabs. And there are variations on the configuration of these tabs. Once you put a NOS up against a replacement you will see a big difference. John

Yes, 283 used a tab that was rectangular, not round as the '63-up cars used. I believe the '62 also used the square tab.
