CTU 370 horse Manual Tranny, transistor ig.
CTK 370 horse Manual Tranny, transistor ig.
CTR 370 horse Manual Tranny, transistor ig.
CTV 370 horse ZR-1, Manual tranny

I have never read anything about non ZR-1's having the CTV suffix?

Hope this helps, the information was just copied from my black book.

      Ken -

Spec Guide says the "CTR" suffix was never used.

I have a crate long block Lt1 I purchased in the very early 70s that has C E392 on the pad. Jerry

John, Terry Mc and I have a photograph of a CTR. Looks good, but neither of us has seen the car to verify if it is real.

My '72 LT-1 is a CRT which also was supposedly never used.

Re: 70 LT-1 ENGINE SUFFIX CODE

If I am not mistaken, "CTU" was the code used for the first few 1970 LT-1's WITHOUT power steering, that had the 6 quart oil pan. When they got power steering, they got the "CTK" stamp and a 5 quart oil pan, since the 6 quart wouldn't clear the steering ram. I'm sure there's exceptions to all this, but the '70 LT-1 I had was a CTU, (8000's VIN) and had power nothing, except at the rear tires!

I have 2 70 LT-1's SN3800 & 5800. Both are stamped CTU & have big oil pan & no P.S. When did they change to the smaller oil pan

When they changed to the CTK suffix. At that time power steering was released as an option for LT1.

Yeah, I can't remember what the earliest VIN was that had P.S. There's a '70 LT-1 that was on ebay that is right by my house, and it's a CTK/PS/5 qt. pan car. Says it Top Flighted in '93.....problem is, he's asking 2007 Top Flight money for a car that's missing half the parts it took to Flight in the first place....shocks, tires, yada yada. If I remember right, it's a late build car, probably one of the last of the '70s.

Re: 70 LT-1 ENGINE SUFFIX CODE

There was a story in The Restorer (back about 1995 give or take a few years) about the CTU to CTK change. Back then I thought it ironic that it took us a decade of judging the cars to figure that one out. Given the items we are still trying to figure out on the 1970-72 Corvettes it now looks like a decade wasn't too bad at all.

My '70 is #6004. No power anything. Larger oil pan.
