    C-1 seatbelts

Would someone explain how to remove the seat belt buckle on a 1960 so I can repaint them. One side has a small spring retainer which I removed but something else has to be done. Thanks in advance.

    Nicholas:
Presuming the buckles are original; with the spring retainer off, the shaft pushes out of the buckle. Be careful because under the hex head is the torsional spring. You'll probably find that you have to rotate the hex head one flat at reassembly to get the buckle flap to spring closed. If the shaft does not come out easily, you will have to try tapping it with a small hammer, it may be rusted in place. There are no other devices holding the buckle together.
