the basic problem with the system it used

germanium transistors unlike silicon ones germanium do not like hign temp. water getting into the "box" was also a problem. they also used PNP type transistors where more common types are NPN. i have a listing of over the counter components that can be used to fix the "board" but i am not sure these are available these days.

A definite 'hang over' from having been an original licensee of Bell Laboratories and INSISTING on staying with the original technology transfer formula vs. negotiating a patent license from Texas Instruments (another Bell Labs licensee who soon learned germanium was NOT the ideal semiconductor material for transistor fabrication)...

back in the 50s i worked on developing germanium

crystal growing equipment for semi conductor material. later i worked on silicon growing equipment which was done at a much higher crystal growing temperature.the hot setup now is rad hard material like single crystal silicon carbide.
