Re: loud side exhausts revisited
I forgot to mention a decent option if you go w/ Hooker side pipes: I bought the Spiral Turbo Baffles (you can find them with google.com very easy). In standard form, they are pretty loud with my engine. They are a spiral formed around a 1-5/8 i.d. pipe. So, for a short time, I ran them with a tailpipe expander stuck in each of the center pipes. That REALLY controls the sound level AND takes the harshness out altogether. Also, a little calculating reveals that there is a lot of "hole/space" left in the baffles so I don't think it hurt on the restriction side. Noticed no performance harm. However, in the end, I went back to the full-bore noisemakers - just me! Anyway, if you liked that sound, I would just weld the ends of the center pipe shut before installing the baffles. As a side, my 15 yr. old son already has a nice big scar from the pipes. The wife REALLY liked them after that!
