Re: '69 Rear End Question
I believe that caps were used in big block optioned cars while small block equiped Corvettes used the u-bolts for the u-joints. If your rear end casing is original, you may be able to read the stamped code that is just forward of the spring and determine whether the application was for the 427 engine or 350. Post your code or engine option and perhaps someone can help out more.Tony- Top

Re: '69 Rear End Question
Don -- The bottom stamping code AT indicates it is 3.08 positraction for a 427, and assembled September 20th, 1968. The rear cover # is actually 3871375 (the "3"s look like "8"s in the casting). Your rear cover casting date is September 6th, so everything looks correct, datewise. Earlier "375" rear covers (prior to sometime in early '69 or even maybe the 68 model) year had no casting date.
Yokes; your rear would have come originally from the factory with the heavy duty caps at the diff end of the halfshaft. If you see one side with "U" bolts, it means that that yoke was replaced at one time with a non-HD yoke from a small block differential.- Top
