    C1 exhaust 1961

Trying to get exhaust right for 1961, low noise, 283, 230hp

Some manuals for muffler say: 3815511 for left, and 3815512 for right.
some manuals for muffler say: 3752561 for left, and 3752562 for right.

I have the latter, and it is possible that the first is GM replacement part.

some for tail pipe: 3796745 for left, and 3796746 for right.
some for tail pipe: 3796743 for left, and 3796744 for right.

    I have the first set.

I am clear on the fact that there are offroad, and F.I., etc. But I do not know why there are diff numbers allowed for the same year.

Anyone that know these systems, I would appreciate their time and insight.

    Thank you.

    Steve

My old chevy parts book (1966) list only the 511 & 512 as mufflers for your car, can't find the 561 or 562 number. Hopefully Joe will jump in with an answer for those numbers.Same with tailpipes, my book shows 745 and 746.

The diagrams are confusing a bit.

I have a diagram that shows the mufflers by themselves, and a short exhaust pipe hooking the muffler to the mail exhaust pipe, and another showing the exhaust with an extension already attached to the muffler, and that combo hooking to the main exhaust pipe.

Thanks for your help, and if Joe or anyone knows more, I would appreciate it.

Part of the answer, but need more info please.

Mufflers came on the car from the factory with welded piece Extension on the muffler, already, therefore not just the muffler. I think when you ordered the muffler from GM, you needed to get the muffler and extension exhaust also, and have it welded. That may be the confusion here.

Does anyone know the number actually printed on the muffler?

I am hoping it might be, 3752561 and 3752562, actually pressed on the muffler?
These mufflers seem exact, and fit the other parts exactly right.

        Anyone know these numbers?

        Thanks

Please respond to this general exhaust question.

I was suprised that this issue wasn't addressed previously, and not a lot of info in previous post about exhaust.

Is is because exhaust isn't really worth much for NCRS?
Do most people just put on replica like Corvette Central parts for NCRS.

Does it matter much for Bowtie Originals?

          Thanks
