    C2-'63 SWC questions

    Simple question of the day:

    1. Rocker mouldings- I am looking at a nice used pair. It appears there is no left or right side, am I correct ? They are interchangeable.
    2. Any suggestions for someone who could restore an original console plate ? Needs some polishing to remove scratches and get some dings out.

    Thanks very much.

    Mike,

I believe the rocker moldings are interchangeable.

Try Andy Cannizzo for the console plate repair 732-583-5378 (I think).

      OOPS,

I might be wrong about the rocker moldings being interchangeable. I was thinking about the door sill plates.
Better let someone else confirm that for you Mike!

Mike, The rocker panels are interchangeable. Getting correct fitting 63 rocker panels is quite difficult. There are many variations on the length. Typical Chev. replacements are too short. But once in a while you can find one that is dead nuts. Look in the archives for this subject.
Replacements from Chevy also tend to have the incorrect bends on the ends but don't worry about it. Radius is a better word. My 63 has one really short NOS rocker panel molding and one that is perfect. The amount of labor it takes to fix a dented one up and then get it refinished far exceeds the cost of buying NOS ones on ebay, etc.
John Messinger often has NOS ones for sale on ebay. He will measure them for you also. Look for 66-1/16 overall length or close to it. My car has one that is 65-5/8 and it is horrible but only temporary. Andy's phone # is posted correctly. Very good on consuls and also restores a ton of other 63 components. John D.

Thanks very much to all. John, your info. was spot on. I have one original that fits perfectly at 66 1/8, unfortunately a second at 65 5/8. Too bad they can't be stretched. I will keep my eyes peeled for a better one.

          All the best, Mike

Mike, You know a lot of us make a fuss over the length of the moldings and get dinged for them at the shows but in reality that may have had some short ones on the 63's when they were knew. I don't know but maybe some of the guru's who have some old ones can measure them and chirp in. Hint to RJ that comments on my every post. RJ go measure some of your junkers.
Meanwhile my car is white and the short molding really looks like crap. You see a lot of white paint showing on each end. Now if DC would shape up and deliver my long NOS one I would be set. Take care, John
