My speedometer started making noise the other day and was starting to swing and have some bounce in it. This is on a MY 71. I searched the archives but could not find any thing on it. If it is not to late to lubricate the speedometer. How and where does one do it on a C-3 car? Thanks.

Re: C3 lubricateion on a speedometer
This has been discussed here and as I recall, GM makes a cable lubricant as do aftermarket places. Have you tried calling Advance Auto and Auto Zone for a cable lubricant? I believe that I have seen one that is graphite based. Again, from memory, you only lube the bottom half of the cable since the lubricant works its way up the cable.
I just did a quick Google search on speedometer cable lubricants and came up with a whole slew of hits. Here is one:

Mine went crazy last fall . Had it redone in the spring and got grease from the rebuilder Maybe your cable or the speedometer.I wouldn't be afraid to do it again , Now I have done it . It's all done from the top except the cables have to be disconnected from their other end- Top

Re: C3 lubricateion on a speedometer
Kelly my original owner came 70 came with turbo 400 has a two piece speedometer cable which makes it very easy to lubricate the lower end to the transmission. Does your 71 have the same? The connection can easily be reached by lying down on the drivers side of the car and reaching underneath to disconnect the connection.- Top
