Brad, Welcome aboard. Here's a tidbit for you "Approximate birthday J58S101925: December 14, 1957" from C1registry.com, so you need an engine cast up to 10 weeks prior to that 12/14/57 and assembled 10 days to 8 weeks prior to 12/14/57. I have '58 #9128. Ted
that is good advice on the judging manual and if you get one book out of the hundreds out there, get the noland adams book. also you will find one about a 1958 is you just have to precede your car's build date correctly like ted stated because they did not start matching serial numbers until 1960 . also there is no trim tag specifying the original build configuration . there will be some clues about original horsepower and options like the tach face, clutch pivot post, etc. although a lot of that stuff might already have been changed.
