On of the large Corvette parts houses offers a "53-55 lower radiator seal", which is depicted as die cut 1/4" rubber, with a straight edge with 5 holes, and a curved edge. This didn't even sound a LITTLE familiar, and after decades of being around this car, I crawled under and looked. Sure enough, there is a flange below the radiator with 5 holes, opposite the curved front of the front crossmember. Here's the catch: The flange and the holes are clean, without the slightest indication any seal was ever installed! Is this possible? It is certainly not needed- It does not run hot, in fact my Dad ran the car with the fan removed for several years.
