    64 steering box

While looking for the excessive play in the steering on my 64 Convert. I noticed that I am getting most of it at the connection between the coupler and steering box. It appears that the coupler is not down far enough on the shaft for a good tight fit. I have about the same amount of the shaft showing on both the steering box and the steering column. This would indicate that the entire column should move down.
Is this correct? What is the correct procedure and distance for this engagment?

    Tnx

The steering column has about 3 inches of fore/aft adjustment, and I believe the OEM position from the plant is all the way aft. The adjustment procedure is in the '63 Corvette Shop manual, which is the primary manual for your car augmented by the '64 Supplement.
