I want to clean up my seat belts (black) on my 69 and would like to know what would be the safest and best way to do this so that I don't damage the tags yet have them clean up as good as new?
I have used watered down simple green on mine. They come out very nice and not stiff. Romve the belt cover the tags with saran wrap and soak the belt. Then rinse with distilled water, dry. Eric
Used Simple Green on my 67 belts, came out great. Don't get the tags wet.
I think they used water soluble ink in the date codes, and the codes will come right off.

Thanks guys, you know that Simple Green is amazing stuff! It worked on the grime stained underbody and now on these delicate seat belts...turned out great.
For what it's worth I tried to keep the tags dry with saran wrap but the first one got soaked with Simple Green. It was the worst tag, very dirty and I couldn't read the date. Well now it looks pretty good and the date is easy to read so maybe in 69 they didn't use water based ink anymore. Guess I won this one!
