Fuel Pump Installation (C1, C2, C3 First Gen. SBC)

Is it necessary to put thread sealer on the 4 bolts that attach the fuel pump?

I know the fuel pump cavity is open to the crankcase so the pump needs to seal that cavity when it's installed. And I know that one of the holes in the front of the block near the pump go to that cavity, so it too needs to be sealed.

All of the fuel pump work I've ever done has been in very cramped conditions because the engine was in the car. For some reason, I've always complicated the job by putting thread sealer goop on the bolts. But now I'm working on an engine that's on a stand. Looks to me that all 4 of those holes are blind. Doesn't seem that they go anywhere.

i use loctite teflon paste on the two 1/4" fastners that attach the fuel pump plate to the block, then do same for the two 3/8" bolts that attach the fuel pump to the block with plate sandwiched between the block and fuel pump.i also use the loctite sealer for the bolt on the front of the block that was initially used (in 1955) for the 265 motor mount brackets. they all communicate with the engine internals and conceivably could allow oil to seep between the threads in the block and the threads on the 5 bolts.mike

Dr.Mike,As I recall you use that white teflon paste on most everything. Its a lot better than using that God awful white tape which the judges frown on.
I use it to install cranking signal valves on the FI's. You taught me that. I hurd thru the grapevine that you even brush ur teeth with that stuff.JD
