Do you have to pull the transmission to replace the extension bushing and the rear oil seal on a 63 Muncie? The drive shaft was checked and found to be out of tolerence and the yoke is worn. I ordered both. I was told that the extension bushing and rear oil seal probably need to be replaced as well. Are there any tricks to replacing these two parts? Thanks for your help.

Re: 63 Muncie Extension Bushing Replacement
If when the drive shaft is out, you have room to access the seal, that can be replaced in the car. I own a 61, and it has been 30 years since I worked on a mid-year, so I don't know if there is enough of room.
As far as the bushing, there are two ways. One is to remove the tail housing, not a job that should be done in the car. The other way is to use a special puller, used at the dealer, that grabs the back of the bushing while still installed in the car, then pulls it out. Then you use a bushing driver to install the new one.- Top
