'72 Ignition Shielding

I have a '72 base motor roadster. I have replaced the french locks on the exhaust manifolds. I have also replaced the ignition shielding, Top, sides, and rear plug shields. Here is the problem, the rear plug shields interfere with the french lock on the back two bolts. The assembly manual seems to clearly shows the french locks used as part of the shields. Are they used with the shielding?

French locks were maintained with RF shielding as shown in the AIM. It will all fit, mon, but the install will test your patience! That's one reason so much of the original radio shielding was discarded over the years by prior owners/mechanics (a PAIN during tune-up)....

You shouldn't be seeing interference problems if you've followed the correct installation configuration. Manifold, then spacer washer, then shield support, then French lock, bolt last is the sequence shown in the AIM. Installing with engine installed is a LOT harder than installing with engine out as the factory did, but you can get there!

Secret is to follow the AIM configuration, install each component and do NOT do final torque on any fastener until all are in place holding correct geometry. Now, tighten wing nuts in sheilds to fix the position of shield supports. Then torque the manifold bolts home. Last, remove shield wing nuts as needed to access and bend up French lock tabs.
