    1972 Tire Selection

I am getting ready for a new set of tires for my '72 and I am a little confused as to which tires would be the best. I have been rebuilding this car mechanically over the last 3 winters and now feel secure enough to take it on some long trips. I have read some tech board postings on tire selection but am now more confused than before. I use this car as a driver and am not concerned with originality. I have looked at Goodyear Eagle GT II but don't like the looks of the white letters. Anyone got any suggestions. I plan on mostly expressway speeds but want good handling. I was going to use 225/70/15 tires on the original 8" wheels.

Try BFG comp T/A HR4. They are H rated vs S or T rating on most tires the same size. They come in blackwall only in 225/70 15. I recently bought a set for my 68, and I also got a free GTech, but that promo has ended. MJ

There have been lots of posts over the last 5 days on this subject. See the thread last posted on Feb 27 titled "Firestone..." I run the Eagle RSA V rated 225/70/15 and like them but they are pricey around 140 each. This and the firestone pv40 firehawk are what the police cruisers use.

        Police Pursuit Tires

Firestone Firehawk PV41, Goodyear Eagle RSA, General XP2000V4. All of these are V-rated all season performance tires that are additionally (but quietly) offered as "police pursuit tires" to agencies.

All are available in 225/70R-15 100V, but for a Shark with eight inch wheels consider a 235/70R-15 102V. I don't know if the other manufacturers offer this size for police pursuit, but Firestone does, and based on the testing, which is contained in secret government test result files I have unearthed, the Firstone appears to be the best overall performer - not by much, but enough to be "statistically signficant".
