    Ron------

I don't think that the 3782870 block was used after the 1965 model year for any passenger car engines. It may have been used for trucks after 1965, but I doubt it. So, this engine was likely originally installed in a very late 1965 model year application of some sort, not necessarily Corvette. That determination could only be made using the suffix code. Except for the suffix code, the blocks are all essentially the same.

        Joe,

Was their a difference in the casting number sizes for the 870 blocks in question? The corvette block having a larger number versus other versions?
        Thanks
        Ron

Not as far as I know, but I suppose it's possible. When the blocks were cast for the Flint Engine plant at the Saginaw Foundry, it's hard to imagine that, unless there were some functional difference in the blocks of which I know not, they would make a point of casting Corvette blocks with a different font size for the casting number. At that stage, I wouldn't think that Saginaw would even know what block was destined for a Corvette and what block was otherwise destined.

Now, it is possible that Saginaw and Tonawanda foundries used a different font size. Since Tonawanda small block castings were VERY rarely used in Corvettes, if the Tonawanda foundry used a smaller font size than Saginaw, then Corvettes would certainly have the larger font size. However, I would expect the same for other cars receiving Saginaw-cast small blocks.
