Can someone tell me what engine block # 3782870 was used for? I am currently removing this engine and would like to know if it has any resale value. Thanks in advance.

GM #3782870 is not a big block but a small block. It was used on most 1962 through 1965 passenger car, truck and Corvette 327 cid engine applications. If it's a Flint manufactured block, I'm sure that there's a 62-65 Corvette restorer that would like to have it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Yes, I should have made sure what I was saying before I put this post on here. Block #3782870 was used in both applications, but in my case it has a casting date of G 12 5 . So indeed it was done for a small block setup. I am currently planning on removing it from my 61 Vette and fortunatley a member who posts on here regularly is helping me put my original block back in. Yes, thank goodness someone had the fore thought to keep my original block. Where can I look for the codes on it's exact production site? Thanks.- Top

The fact that it has a "5" instead of a "65" likely indicates that it's a Flint-manufactured engine. However, you can confirm this by checking the first character of the engine production code. If it's a Flint-manufactured small block, it will be an "F" or a "V" (and likely an "F", in this case). If it's a Tonawanda manufactured small block, the first character will be a "T".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Chevy big block # 3782870
This engine block was not for a corvette. With a casting date of June 1965 it was probably installed in the 1966 model year passenger car. My books indicate the 3782870 block was used up to the 1965 corvette model year. In 1966 the corvette switched to a 3858174 or 3892657 casting 327 cu in blocks.- Top
