    Re: NCRS accepted?

    Joe,

No surprise to you, but I HIGHLY agree.

Russ, I would suggest removing your calipers (especially if KNOWN original to the car) and sending them to Vette Brakes. Tell them you want 1) O-rings, and 2) black paint for an NCRS-type rebuild. I have done this with a couple of cars and been VERY happy with the results. If your calipers have previously been replaced, just have them send you their kit, and then return yours as cores. I've done this too.

Be aware that MOST rebuilders will not paint the calipers in correct black unless you request it. In addition, as brake calipers are date coded, I never think it hurts to get the originals back.

        Buyer be ware

First of all, thanks to everyone for your help in this issue. I am going to contact vette brakes and go ahead and spend the $430 for the set of O-ring calipers. I guess there's no point skimping on the one thing that could keep you and your car alive!

However, I have one more piece of info to add. If you need work done on your brakes, DO NOT GO TO JUST BRAKES!! I'm sure you all know this already, but my experience with them was horrible. Without even looking at the brakes they tried to make me buy new pads and have the rotors turned. After waiting an hour they told me I would need new calipers as all 4 were leaking. I know for a fact that only 2 were leaking! Their price $924. I suggested that I might shop around, to which their reply was: "you have to buy Delco calipers because the pressures have to match exactly." and that they "...shouldn't even let me drive the car home because it is so dangerous." I said no thanks and left. Upon leaving, the brakes all of a sudden were locked on the wheels so that without depressing the brake pedal, I could coast to a stop. By the time I got my car home (~15 miles) all four rotors were smoking and freaking me out. That's when I decided to do it myself. I know that not all places are bad, but after some asking around, I found out that 20/20 or somebody, did a 1 hr special on how bad they were ripping people off, right here in Houston.

Well, sorry for the long post but I just hate for someone else to go through what I have.

Thank you all for your time and dedication.

        Sincerely,
        Russ Fulks

            Russ,

If you will be at any shows that Vette Brakes will be visiting in the near future, don't be afraid to bring your calipers down in person. At least you save on freight one way. I've done this, too.

Very few shops know how to repair a Corvette braking system. You've learned that yourself, but thankfully didn't have to pay for the knowledge.

                Patrick,

That is a good idea. I suppose vette brakes web site would say when and where they will be. I will have to check it out. I am so glad that I was able to get my car back before they did any work to it. Who knows what damage they might have done to the rotors, etc.

                Thanks,
                Russ

                    WARNING...DANGER WILL ROBINSON !!!!!!!

DO NOT buy anything from Vette Parts Online!! They will sell you JUNK if you even get your stuff at all. They used to be called Florida Caliper, but keep changing their name because of deceptive business practices. If you go to BBB.org (Better Bus Bureau) and look up Florida Caliper in Delray Beach, FL you will find out what I mean. I have personally been ripped off by them and have recently been contacted by some others who are not happy. Please contact me for more information, or if you have been ripped off by this unscrupulous person/ company.
