New rebuilt 427/425 hp, What oil/gas

I have a 66 427/425 horse car which has just been completely restored. The original engine has approximately 8000 miles on it and has been rebuilt. I live in Michigan so I'm just getting ready to take it out of it's cocoon and get it ready for summer. I left the old oil ind the engine during winter storage and change in the spring. Is this ok to do? What oil do you recommend for this engine? The car will be driven a little but mainly showed. It's started around 3-5 times per week. Also what oil additives,if any do you recommend and lastly what gas and if any, gasoline additives do you recommend?

Thank you very much, Jerry Antczak

I change my oil to 10w 40 in the fall so i can start the cars up every once in a while during the winter, even though they are in the garage it still get cold. I feel that 20w 50 is to thick for cold days. such as 30 degrees Then i put 20w 50 in them all summer. The one's i have right now is a 450 hp small block and a 300 hp big block. They both run smoother and have alot less blow by on the piston rings and take less oil. They run cooler also. I highly recomend it.

I recommend API CF-4 heavy duty diesel engine oil because of it's richer additive package; 15W-40 is the best year round grade as long as you don't drive it in below zero weather. Chevron Delo is my current brand, but Mobil Delvac and Shell Rotella are fine, too.

Change the oil one per year, preferably in the fall before you put it away for the coldest months. Also recommend Havoline Extended Life anti-freeze (Dexcool) and flush the brake fluid every two years.

Use the highest octane pump premium you can find. If you get any detonation blend in some higher octane racing gas or avgas until the detonation stops.

                Addendum

DO NOT use any engine oil additives. If you use a quality oil, it has all the additives you need. CF-4 oils have a higher concentration of detergent, dispersant, and anti-wear additives than current SL oils specified for spark ignition engines. Additive concentrations have been reduced over the years for spark ignition oils because their combustion byproducts are tough on catalysts, and modern EFI engines do not dilute the oil with fuel as much as vintage carbureted engines.

                        Eric, just so you know-

You are not doing your cars any favours by starting them over the winter. Best to store it properly at the end of the driving season and not disturb it until you are ready to put it back on the road in the spring.

Lots of discussion in the archives on this.

Additionally, you state that the cars run cooler with one oil type vs. another. How did you determine this?

Temperature guage, by the numbers. (auto meter guages, Iroc-z)maybe 5 degrees. I have not run it with 10w 40 in the summer for a long while.
