    60 and the HP is........?

I have a 60, serial number 487. Based on the numbers on the heads and
intake I have built it as a 235. I just noticed the red line on the tach is at 6500. I suspect the engine was more likely tampered with then the tach.
Are there any other clues that might tell me the true original horsepower?

The 6500 RPM redline was only applicable to the two engines equipped with the mechanical lifter Duntov cam, so if there is no evidence of an OEM FI system and you think the tach is original it was a dual quad 270 HP engine.

There should be an ink stamped date on the back of the tach. See if it appears consistant with the build date of the car. Also look at the tach for evidence of the face having been replaced. If tach and face appear to likely be original, then there is a reasonable probability that the car was a 270.

You didn't mention wheather the stamping on the front right corner of the engine block is still visible. The suffix on that stamp would tell you the horsepower of the engine.
            CQ 230 hp
            DG 230 hp automatic
            CT 245 hp

            CR 250 hp
            CU 270 hp

The redish print on the back of the tach is dated Aug 29, 1959
The Block is correct vintage but stamped DB.(wrong) All other components, starter, generater, water pump, etc. are correct numbers. I am the third owner of the car.
The second owner (a very reliable life long friend) received the original title and sent it in for transfer. He was TOLD everything was original. (Do people LIE!!!?)
Was the tach installed with high lift cam or with just the 270?
I believe the tach is original. The original owner started the restoration.
I purchased the car body off, but the dash was all intact. It was pretty complete.
I even have the original plywood spare cover.
