    driveline phasing

I have read on the board several times about drive line phasing. In my off road days phasing was very important due to the driveline angles, but I am somewhat confused as to phasing on corvettes.

My transmission yoke slides on the output shaft anyway I put it on. In other words there is not a wider spline that needs aligning. The tranny is original but unknown about the shaft. (1970 M-20)

The driveline itself has both ends in line with each other so I am not understanding how one could install the driveline out of phase. Back in the 4 wheel days we were concerned with having the driveline 90 degrees out but as long as the yokes on both ends of the shaft were line up everything was as should be. Due to the slip yoke being on the shaft itself it was possible to have it out of phase any which way.

In short, the yoke on the differential and the yoke on the transmission have to be in time for the driveline to even be installed. Could someone explain what difference it makes if say you turned over the pinion or tranny output 180 degrees. I undestand having the timing out 90 causing vibrations, but that is not possible with my driveline.
