"Buzzer tachs"

A thread further down talkes about these. Never heard of 'em. What are/is it?

I have the Speed Minder option on my 67 but never heard of a tach that buzzes.

As I recall, 1963 model Corvettes were initially produced with a tachometer which caused an audible signal ("buzz")to occur to alert the driver when the engine speed exceeded the redline (or got into the "yellow" zone). I believe that the tachometer, itself, did not actually "buzz" but a seperate buzzer, activated by the tachometer, did. In later 1963 production the warning tachometer was dropped since the buzzer could not be really heard at high engine speeds, anyway.

As stated previously, Chevrolet sales literature stated that only FI engines had buzzer tachs, but Noland Adams survey found buzzer tachs on both SHP (340HP) and FI engines on early production cars. The buzzer is remote. There was a transistion period where some SHP/FI cars had buzzer tachs without buzzers or buzzers without the proper tach, so the buzzer was installed, but not functional. Noland has a good writeup on them in his book. Since all this hardware disappeared fairly early in production, there are very few SHP/FI '63s that have functioning buzzer tachs.
