    Engine Whistle

Wayne & Al, I understand the theoretical. The practical is what escapes me. There would seem to be a rather long list of options available. Each having a specific weight value. Not all weights would necessarily be different. How could one with any real degree of certainty state that specific options were on a car simply because the gross weight could be duplicated by adding a specific set of individual weights to produce the shipping weight? Could that shipping weight not be repeated using a different combination of option weights? BTW did the shipping weight include fuel? How much? Does not sound like something one would put a lot of faith in even though one could generate a list of specific option weights that duplicated the shipping weight. I agree with the usage of the MSO to differentiate between a BB and a SB.The MSO also indicated that the car was a convert.

The state of Maryland sent me the photocopy of my MSO after I wrote them requesting any and all paperwork. That was in 1989. Others may try the same thing for their cars. It would be usefull to construct a data base.

    Engine Whistle

I have a -66 L-79 that has developed a loud whistle that doesn`t sound mechanical. I have checked for vacuum leaks and used a stethoscope on the alternator and water pump. This sounds like it is coming from the carb and is definitely affected by RPM. Performance is seemingly unaffected but it is loud enough to hear going down the road in a side pipe car. This is not constant and it will stop on it`s own (I just cut the engine off and started ten minutes later and no whistle. Any ideas would be appreciated.

      Re: Engine Whistle

I had a stock Holley (780)worked over for better performance just minor stuff. When I got the carburator back I noticed it whistle as I slipped through the gears always at a lower RPM range. Never effected idle, performance.

I don't know how long you've had the car or it's history. If this just started up out of the blue and you haven't changed intake filters or any carb work I would just call Jerry Luck's Carb service,314-895-1551.

      Good luck,grr#33570

        Pete,

Not to worry you but a few years ago I owned 57 # 20 and I was hearing a whistle/shrieking sound when the engine was running. Even at idle it would come and go. Tear down of the engine revealed the front cam bearing was toast.

Pete, I had the same problem that drove me crazy. After going over the holley carb at least four times, I doubled the gasket between the main body and the base plate and no more whistle. The symptoms that you describe are identicial and just as annoying. (1967 300hp holley)
