Late 1953- Early 1954 Overflow tanks

The only part I need to make my '54 #47 complete is an overflow tank, smooth no ribs. Mine is usuable but it has a huge dent on the top. I have been told to light a firecracker and put it inside and the force of the explosion will cure the dent. As you may understand I am a little reluctant to try this. I have tried the freezer technique as well and it didn't budge! I have been looking for a tank now for over three years and can't find one. Anybody know where one may be available????

I had a similar problem with my 54 vette when I restored it several years ago. My overflow tank had a couple of dents in it also so I asked the guy who rechromed it to fix the dents. He heated the overflow tank with a mini torch and undid the solder which holds the two parts together in the middle. After that he was able to remove the dents and then resolder it and rechromed it afterwards. That was about 13 years ago and my overflow tank is still beautiful with no dents. Hope this helps.
