    '70 LT-1 Tach Question

    Help me understand something. The 1970 L46 350/350 came with a tach that started to redline at 5500 rpm's (orange) then redlined (red) from 6000-7000. How was the 1970 LT-1 tach configured? Did it "start" to redline (orange) at 6500? What was the highest RPM reading on the tach? Did the '70 - '72 LT-1's all have the same tach?

    Thanks a bunch, a picture of a '70 LT-1 tach would be great!

    Solid lifter SHP engines all carry a redline begining at 6500, and the orange zone is typically between 6300 and 6500.

      Re: '70 LT-1 Tach Question

      Bob and Duke----

      The 1970 LT-1 tachometer did, indeed, have an "orange" zone beginning at 6300 RPM and a red zone beginning at 6500 RPM and continuing through 7000 RPM. 7000 RPM was the maximum RPM shown on the tachometer of all 1963-76 Corvettes.

      There are some differences between the tachometers used on 70-72 LT-1s, though. These are as follows:

      1) 70-71 are the same and use characters with a greenish hue; "orange"/red zones are as above;

      2) 72 tachs use white characters;

      3) 72 LT-1 WITHOUT A/C used the above-referenced "orange"/red zones; LT-1s WITH A/C used a tachometer in which the "orange" zone began at 5300 RPM and the red zone began at 5600 RPM and continued through 7000 RPM.
