    427 out of what?

I recently ran across a friend who has had a couple of big blocks stuffed in the corner of his garage for a long time now and decided too purchase one. I havn't jackhammered through the grease yet for some numbers off the block but i grabbed a number off the intake. its an aluminum intake with the numbers 3933163 stamped in. it has a date also of 4-6-68 i presume. the valve covers are aluminum also with the numbers 427 case into the top of the covers. i have really never seen something like this before. Did i run into something worth hanging onto or were these parts just aftermarket. I havn't been able to find any numbers that match that of the intake. if any one has any info on the intake or such please let me know if possible. as always thanks for your time.

It's hard to say what you're looking at based upon the information which you've provided, but I can tell you this:

    1) The intake manifold casting number, GM #3933163, which you've provided is a very common one. It was issued about 1968 and is a high rise, 4 barrel, square-bore (Holley) flange aluminum manifold for big blocks. This manifold was a very popular over-the-counter piece and was available until recently, if not to this very day. As far as I know, it is not a casting number ever used on a Corvette, though.

    2) The aluminum valve covers which you describe were never used on a Corvette. They are either aftermarket valve covers of no particular import or are the 91+ style Mark V valve covers used on some trucks equipped with the 454 and certain crate engines.
