C3 - Original Trim Ring

How can I tell if my Trim Rings are "Original" for a 1968 Corvette, ..... or Reproductions?

Originals have four prongs that hold them on to the rim. One is directly over the valve stem hole with the others spaced at 90 deg. intervals. The better Repros have four prongs but don't have a prong at the valve stem.

The only trim rings that have the correct "clock" (always a clip at the valve stem hole and all others 90 degrees from that) are the assembly line rings. All the service replacements made by/for GM have the clips located randomally. There is an large number of trim rings out ther where someone "pinched" the outer rim of the trim ring in order to rotate the circular ring that holds the 4 clips, so that there is a clip at the valve stem hole. That modification is detectable by a wavey front on the trim ring. Don't pay original prices for a modified trim ring.
