Re: C1: heater leak - followup

Once you get the radiator drained down below the level of the heater, the pressboard heat distributor duct removed, and the hoses and power & ground wires disconnected, you'll find four studs protruding into the engine side of the firewall around the heater air inlet box - remove the four nuts and washers and the heater will come out from the inside.

Are you sure it's the core leaking

There is a tool for testing leaks in cooling systems.
If you don't have one some part stores like Autozone may
loan you a cooling system pressure tester. It's a hand pump
with a hose and adapter similar too the radiator cap.
You hook this up to the radiator and pump it up to about
15 lbs. Once the pressure is in the system look for leaks.
After you find the leak release the pressure by removing the
tester from radiator. You will want to make sure the system
is full of water before testing.
This can also be done by filling the cooling system and running
the engine till it gets warm and biulds up it's own pressure
but be carefull releasing the pressure cap on a hot engine.
Don't be surprised if you find a hose or the hot water valve leaking.
That repair is a lot less work and worth checking out first.
