    Walker

Now that I think about this, I believe Walker was Chevrolet's source for the side pipes. But I think they independently developed and marketed them before Corvette usage.

Re: Popping through exhaust with chambered pipes?

"Popping" on overrun can also be caused by an exhaust leak (allowing air into the system), or by a failed diverter valve diaphragm on an A.I.R. system (allows pump output into manifolds on overrun, which a functioning valve diverts out through the valve's "muffler" on overrun instead). Can also be caused/aggravated by lean idle mixture (throttle plates are closed on overrun, so the idle circuit is feeding mixture under very high vacuum) or by retarded idle timing (inadequate vacuum advance).

In addition to being offered on a Camaro, I believe it was also offered on the '69 Chevelle.

Re: Popping through exhaust with chambered pipes?

I have read that a defective valve in the AIR system can possibly cause a popping sound in the exhaust, but I can't claim this to be 100% true.

Re: Popping through exhaust with chambered pipes?

              Roger -

Correct - see my post below - the diverter valve is designed so that when the rubber diaphragm fails, the valve defaults to the open position, dumping pump output to the manifolds full-time.
