i would say the cam is a 3863143 because of the lift and duration matches that cam and the casting number being 1 number off is typical.

An easy way to confirm is to measure the height of the clearance ramps. They should have a height of about .014" off the base circle and be linear with a velocity of about .0002" per degree of crankshaft rotation, so they should consume about 70 degrees of crank rotation, or about 35 degees at the cam.

My references show that all camshafts with the 4366 casting number were solid-lifter cams with .520" lift (P/N 3904362 for '67-'68 427/435 and '71 454/425), and the 3144 casting number used for a solid-lifter cam with .520" lift for '66 427/425 (P/N 3863143). Both castings should also have an "OMO" symbol cast-in adjacent to the casting number.

Is it right that the 3863143 is a mechanical cam and has a duration of 242 for
both intake and exhaust? Where do you have the information from?

I have seen that but there is the duration not the same at intake and exhaust as my cam has. Isn't it strange?

those durations posted by chevy never make any sense but the 143 cam is 242 at .050 on both intake and exhaust.

John- what is different in the 4362 and 3143 cams....everything I have ever seen shows the timing and lift the same, which is the case in Clems's website below. There must have been a reason they altered the casting and part numbers...both have the rear groove in the journal...thx!...Craig
