    Wonderbar Conversion

    Hi All,
It's been some time since my last post, but I have enjoyed reading all of your posts on here. Here's my question. I have a fully functional 61 Wonderbar that I would like to have converted to AM-FM stereo. Do you folks here know anyone around who does this and at what cost? I do want to keep the same original look. I did notice where Corvette Central has someone who does this, but I felt there fee was somewhat high. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to purchase a high tech "look alike" to use and
    keep my wonderbar as is.

      Re: Wonderbar

Larry, I appreciate the post, but that didn't answer my question. I have had the look alike in and took it out. I want it to be as original as possible, but still be able to listen to something besides church and country music. Not that there is anything wrong with church and country music.
      Cheers,
      Craig

They do this sort of conversion.

            Re: Wonderbar

As an alternative to modifying the Wonderbar, I'm considering adding a simple (removable) cabled input jack to its' audio system, so I can pipe in audio from a pocket-size fm radio that can be hidden away.

              Hi Craig,
I wasn't trying to answer your question. I was suggesting what my plans were. Will doing this to your radio destroy its value? Should you try to use an alternative and save your radio? I have a wonderbar and I don't even know yet if it works or not. When they convert a wonderbar, do they care if it works or not?
If not, should you send them one that works? Like most guys, I'm not as much concerned about the results of what I do with my car, as I am about the fella that might want to buy it.
Will I ever want to sell it?
As I write this my thoughts are,
why would I sell it? What differance will it make?
Shouldn't I make this thing the way I WANT IT.
Mabe you have already figured all this out.
Thanks for helping me talk to myself!
              Larry

                Craig,
The thougts about not converting are good. I have a wonderbar in my 57 and thought about conversion also. I opted to by a FM converter that is tuneable and has an AM output that I set one of the pushbuttons totune. That way I can get both without any mod to the radio. However, I rarely listen anyway as I drive with the top down mostof the time and the noise level precludes hearing much anyway.

                  Ted,

Where can I get the converter with the AM output you mentioned? AM reception where I live is limited to two weak, lousy
stations, but FM reception is good. I'd really like to be able to listen to FM when
                  I cruise in my '57.

                  Thanks,
                  Jim

Mine was made by audio vox and I paid $2 at a garage sale for it. It is very small. Try Radio shack. I will look so more. Send me an email so I have your request in front of me. tvonkampen@charter.net/A>
