        Re: L88 heads

This casting number is for heads used on 68 and early 69 L-88s and and 68 and 69 L-89s. They were also sold in the parts department and probably most of the heads out there came from the parts dept rather than off a rare car.

He did say they were from a 68 L88. I was curious ,and thought the aluminum heads from Chevy back then went on all of the high horse power big blocks.

You'll need to get the dates on both heads to verify, but if they're from 1968, they were used from the factory on the following:

            1968 Corvette L88
            1968 Corvette L71/L89
            1968 Camaro L78/L89

Thanks. I thought the same heads on a L88 were used on other cars from Chevy!!
              Thanks

Here's a pair of '842s' I have; dates shown below. Also, there's a gang stamp "AMB1167" on one end of each head. I assume the 11_67 is a date (Nov ? 1967).

                  Re: L88 heads

AMB1167 is probably a rebuilder's code. (American Motor Builders??)

That and the HC at the upper right. (Hillary Clinton??)

My 842 heads are both dated 1-8-68 (January 8th, 1968) and I have no stamps like those on either head.

You're probably right Mark, but I got a giggle picturing Hillary Clinton in a leather machinist's apron working on an aluminum head!!

1968 842 heads and some late 67 392 heads have temp sender holes in the heads, but 67 manifolds have temp sender holes so most 67 heads do not.

                              Wayne,

My set of "842" heads that I purchased new definitely have the " HC " letters stamped similar to yours.
