    C2 (1966) Steering Shock

Can the rubber bushings on the steering shock/damper be replaced? If, does anyone know a source. I've checked on-line catalogs of the usual sources. They all sell the steering shock as an assembly, but do not list any other parts.

Also, the TIM&JG says it is painted gray. Is the LIC shock absorber gray the correct color?

    Thanks,

    Don

The original bushings were single piece and, perhaps, formed in place. GM never serviced these bushings. However, I think that bushings GM #3735334 could be used. These would be installed one on either side (i.e 4 bushings required to service both ends of the stabilizer). Once installed on the car, I think they would work perfectly and no one judging the car would ever know the difference. Unfortunately, these bushings are GM discontinued.

GM NOS bushings are available on e-bay. Not cheap, but the real deal.

As far as color goes, I think very early examples of this steering shock absorber, like in the 1963-64 period were painted black. Then, ABOUT 1965 or 66 and through 1968, they were painted gray. SERVICE examples were gray for awhile. Then, it was back to black again for SERVICE until they were finally discontinued.

Turns out mine had other issues so I had it restored my Dan Patch.

                Mark,

                Search e-bay for "3735334 nos".
