A/C system charging for an '81

My newly acquired '81, which has been stored for quite some time, still has the R12 in place, or maybe some. The compressor makes a clattering sound when the A/C is turned on, I suspect it has no freon or oil. I was planning to do as I have done with some other vintage R12 systems I have, use my vacuum pump to pump the system down, then put in a compressor oil charge and follow with R12, using my gauges on the suction side, does that sound OK for this rotary compressor (new for '81 I understand)? I have 4 12 oz. bottles of DuPont R12 left in my stash, anyone know how much of a charge it takes? Thanks.
