2017 FLA Winter Regional - Hurry Up & Register - Registration ends 1/2/17

    https://www.forums.ncrs.org/register...bscription.php

Quick note on host hotel (Hilton Gardens) They would only give us a NCRS rate on a 30 room block, these rooms are by name (team leaders judging staff and directors) to get the lower rate so if you call and your name is not on that list you will have to pay the full rate to get a room at that hotel. We have additional rooms blocked at the Fairfield at $94 813-757-6202

Another great Hotel for this meet is the Hampton Inn & Suites, 3630 Lakeside Village Blvd, 863-603-7600. It is a short drive to the meet, but well worth being close to many dining and entertainment facilities.

They have honored the $139 rate for NCRS members who wish to stay there. They have that rate under the special code of "NCR" if you wish to call and reserve a room. This hotel is close (within walking distance) to several good restaurants and a movie theater.

Re: 2017 FLA Winter Regional Registration opens.

Some questions regarding the new Stock/Modified Division.... Forgive me if there's more info in the latest Driveline or Restorer, but I don't have them yet.

I don't see anything on the latest registration form....

-Do we yet know the process and detailed way to Register?

      -Is NCRS Membership required?

-What are the year categories and car quantity entry limits?

-Will these cars be in the "Hangar" or Outside?

-When are these cars expected to arrive and which day or days will they be judged?

We are only about 7 weeks away from the Regional so it would be good to communicate the info as soon as it's available. I have several friends with recently restored NTFP cars(a '59 and a '66) and they would like to know.

ps I know this is a all new category and we'll have learning curves, but class is about to begin, right? If we want people to come we need to tell them something.

        Rich,

There is a short explanation here on the online driveline. Not much but an introduction. Other questions can be answered by David Brigham. Click on the Online Driveline at the top of the home page.

I may be in Winter Haven just East of Lakeland visiting friends. Is there a charge to come over to the event, or a charge for a guest of mine?

Re: 2017 FLA Winter Regional Registration opens.

John, Since the organizers rarely frequent this digital communications social media platform, I will jump in. I've asked similar questions before. My only disclaimer is that this info is unofficial and is subject to change.

Registration is typically needed to attend the Thursday night Reception party, Seminars, Judging, OJ, Banquet, etc. These fees help support our organization and individual Chapters.

However, there is no fee for anyone to walk around to see the cars, swap meet browsing, etc. Some Regionals require a small fee, 5 bucks or so, to enter the Judging field/Hangar areas, but we've never done that at Old Town or Lakeland. Not sure if we're starting that up this year or not. I doubt it.

Based on which day you come, there may be a general spectator parking fee of around 5 bucks per car, typically on Saturday. If driving a Corvette, there is a free Corvette only parking area.

Rich and all, see answers in BOLD below:

Some questions regarding the new Stock/Modified Division.... Forgive me if there's more info in the latest Driveline or Restorer, but I don't have them yet.

-Do we yet know the process and detailed way to Register? There is no formal Registration for the practice judging. The NJC will recruit Two C2s for Friday Judging, and Two C2s for Saturday judging. He will also select the Judging team members.

                  -Is NCRS Membership required? Yes

-What are the year categories and car quantity entry limits? For the Florida Winter Meet, Four C2s.

-Will these cars be in the "Hangar" or Outside? Undetermined at this time.

-When are these cars expected to arrive and which day or days will they be judged? They would likely need to be on site during Thursday OPS judging.

We are only about 7 weeks away from the Regional so it would be good to communicate the info as soon as it's available. I have several friends with recently restored NTFP cars(a '59 and a '66) and they would like to know.

The plan for this new Concours Judging program is still being formulated and Practice Judging will commence in FLA and continue through other Regional Meets to and including at the 2017 Convention in San Antonio, TX in July. After the Convention the program will be evaluated.

I didn't know it was not open for general entries and that it would be a only a practice session.

Re: 2017 FLA Winter Regional Registration opens.

I read the current info on the new class and have some comments. Many of these cars have a state assigned vin as they did not have vins and received them once the car was presented to the state for registration. I also know of several that used a passenger car title in order to get a registration as a 2 door chev. are either of these eligible? Since we are looking to ascertain if they represent a corvette and in some cases these cars are assembled from parts collected without a corvette vin then I think that the vin part of the judging is not applicable, the process should first ascertain that car is unmistakably a corvette then judged accordingly. I have a C1 in mind that represents this situation and will make it available for discussion at the event concerning this subject.

As you scroll through the pictures you can see this is s street rod corvette and it should qualify but it does not have a corvette vin.

Be careful here. I remember the 2007 ? National Convention in Windsor, ON Canada when two long time Corvette friends and their wives drove over from Michigan for the day. One was a current NCRS member, the other his dues had expired. While the women went shopping, the guys went to look at cars. The non NCRS expired dues member wore the other wives ID badge. They ''arrested'' him for the $75 fee.

I wish our attendance to see cars and old friends could be more accommodating.

I respect your views but here the member was so cheap that he could not pay the $5 ? As some one who has been doing regionals for over 20 years I feel the one day trippers should be asked to pay if necessary to help cover the costs. You don't do Bloomington for free and our meets cost money to put on. Gone are the days where you could pick a hotel use their facilities and adjacent parking lot. For better or worse the expectation level has risen over the years and its been a challenge to keep up. As you know we moved the Winter Regional from a popular place with lousy facilities to one with an unpopular place but outstanding facilities and a supporting revenue stream (parking). We have no plans to go back, it will make it here or it will not be. If it comes to charging non registered people we will do that too but understand if the membership decides that there is no value in these events they will signal with not registering and looking at our registration it looking like that time is getting close.

Let me cite an incident last year. 3 NCRS members (UNREGISTERED) came to the gate last year and wanted to park in the area reserved for registered NCRS members and when advised they would have to park in the general parking ($5) they insisted that they should park in the 'free' lot. I again pointed them to general parking and as they drove away said if I came to their meet in the NE I would not be allowed to park in their lot. My reply was if I came to their meet I would most certainly register. NCRS membership does not ENTITLE you to anything at these events, it does entitle you to register and participate.

I AGREE TYLER. There is ''NO FREE RIDE'' Never has been. And I agree with your last year story. I just wish we had a more friendly ''come and look'' policy for members and friends. The 2014 and 2016 FRISCO REGIONAL that I attended had a table at the door to check our badges, and collect $5.00 from curious hotel guests and spectators. That was the same as the 2002 National at Monterey.

It is NOT nice when an event has no policy enforced until there is a problem. I am glad you guys are creating again a great event that started back in the early 80's. I remember Cypress Gardens and enjoyed those events when we were all kids. TIMES are different.

Here's .02 worth of input. State issued VIN should be no problem, just like with currently Flight Judged cars. I would also suggest that Trim Tags be disregarded, as many of these cars may be may be build from pieces of cars or just built to owners personal taste. I hope we get to see some cars built by true hobbyist that built their car more out of appreciation of the marque than concern as to whether or not it was "worth restoring". I hope we have enough of people willing to judge these cars to make this class feasible. It should be regarded as a tool to broaden our clubs appeal to the Corvette community and in NO WAY take away from or compete with our Flight Judging process.
As for the car with the 2Dr Chevy passenger car title, I understand that was a easy way to get a home built car registered back in the day, but it was also popular for car thieves. I would suggest that if we wish to take the high road, not consider these cars for judging. That or disregard VINs completely in that class. Again, just my .02 worth. Chip.
