    Door Mechanism

I am about to assemble my door mechanisms. Mine are clean and dry. What ( if any ) type of lubricant should be used?
    Thanks Rey

    Hi Ray
I have used white grease in the past and it was similar to what was on there but it dries out and collects dirt. I like the spray dry lubes out today and have used them on shifters without a problem. Maybe someone has another product as well.

My choice: GM #12377985, the (nearly) all-purpose lubricant.

        Re: Door Mechanism

For for door latch mechanisms, I've had good results by removing it from the door, cleaning it thoroughly with brake cleaner, blow drying with compressed air, then squirting a high quality lubricant/ rust preventative into all the internal pivots, cams and levers. I like Dura Lube Advanced All Purpose Lubricant/Protectant. It's like a higher viscosity version of ACF-50 so it clings better. White lithium or chassis grease can also be applied to the striker itself to handle that high wear point.

After this treatment, door latches operate smooth as butter.

The challenge with using only chassis grease as mentioned above is it doesn't get into the intricacies of the mechanism; it's just too thick.

DuraLube does not show this product on its website. Did they stop making it?

I don't see it either. My can is probably 10 years old (a little goes a long way), so maybe it's discontinued?

ACF-50 would probably work great although it's expensive. Maybe others know a good alternate product that's also just a bit thicker...
